Martin and Alejandra are planning to double the solar capacity and eventually sell power back to the grid. All water that comes out of any tap has been purified with UV light, eliminating the need to provide bottled drinking water. The garden and landscaping was designed by Alejandra incorporating native, low-maintenance species to reduce water use. Watch this spit of sand, which bears an uncanny likeness to a whale’s tail, appear and disappear with the shifting tides.

Fabulous escape in a beautiful site far from town. The Rum Tasting experience was fun one afternoon. The staff was great finding toucans & shuttling us to the local waterfall. The hotel restaurant was equally impressive, serving up foodie-friendly farm-to-table fare with a dash of epicurian elegance. These days, ecotourism focuses much more on preserving local ecosystems and culture.

Travel in Costa Rica used to mean staying in little wooden lodges and shabby-chic bungalows (not necessarily a bad thing), or giant, corporate American complexes. We believe in sustainable tourism, are ICT certified and in perfect standing with the following organizations. Kura Villas is the ideal vacation spot for honeymoons, romantic getaways, and luxurious vacations. The Junior Suite Villas are decorated with sophisticated minimalism and nestled into the forest and are ideal for bird watching. Toucans, parrots, cusingas, birds of prey, and hummingbirds are easily visible, and you will find even more with your in-room binoculars.
When the sun re-emerges, don’t miss sightings of colorful birds as well as the occasional whale’s tail from the infinity pool. Kura Villas is an extraordinary eco-friendly boutique hotel snuggled in the mountains that overlook Uvita. Included in the Cayuga Collection as well as a Virtuoso Preferred partner, this internationally recognized hotel is one of the top leading sustainable resorts worldwide. The Kura provides elegant furnishings, an enticing saltwater infinity pool, spa area, restaurant and bar, outdoor lounge, plus comfortable onsite jungle trails.
Though they’d planned to open a humble surf shack on the beach they immediately saw a much, much grander project unfold along a stately ridge on the site. Named “one of the most biologically intense regions on earth” by National Geographic, the area is one of raw, untamed beauty. Covering all seven continents, The World Your Way shows you how you can see the world with us. It features trip ideas from our specialists alongside hand-picked stays and experiences, and introduces our approach to creating meaningful travel experiences. The polished details and intuitive touches throughout Kura make it almost impossible to believe that Kura is the first hotel project (but hopefully not the last) from Martin and Alejandra. All of this explains why Kura was made part of the Cayuga Collection of sustainable resorts right off the bat. The Kura staff is also entirely local except for the chef. Most were retained after showing promise while working on the construction of the hotel. Our itineraries are there to spark ideas for how you could include a stay at Kura Design Villas as part of your trip. Treat them simply as suggestions, because every aspect of the trip we create for you will be yours to define.
